Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps. ("SVAC"), provides the Scarsdale community with advanced life support ambulance service to patients of all ages experiencing a medical emergency. Advanced life support is one of the highest levels of pre-hospital care available, that SVAC provides 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

SVAC is staffed by a combination of paid paramedics and volunteer emergency medical technicians and other appropriately trained volunteers. SVAC's volunteers are residents of Scarsdale and its neighboring communities who are dedicated to serving their neighbors despite their busy schedules as parents, homemakers, business executives, lawyers, teachers, accountants, tradespeople, engineers, health care providers and the like. It is this selfless dedication to helping one's neighbors that makes the difference in the personal care provided by SVAC.

In 2001, SVAC celebrated its 30th anniversary of providing service to the community. SVAC is primarily funded through generous donations from members of the community. SVAC's expenses include, operating two advanced life support ambulances, maintaining its building facility and paying professional salaries, in addition to its other general operating expenses. In order to maintain the level of service and care (approximately 900 emergency calls per year), and to maintain its facilities and equipment, SVAC is embarking upon a significant fund raising effort. All assistance from the community with respect to this campaign will be used to support and enhance the invaluable services that SVAC provides. SVAC is looking to the community for generous support.

SVAC is also in need of volunteers, particularly those interested in driving the ambulances. It is not necessary to have any medical training. SVAC will provide all necessary training. For more information, please call SVAC at 722-2288, or any of SVAC's officers or directors.
